The Wheel on the School by Meindert DeJong (HarperCollins, $12.76, fifth-grade level). ISBN: 0060215852.	The Medalist A group of school children in a small Dutch village have a series of adventures while trying to locate old wagon wheels to put atop their schoolhouse roof in an attempt to attract nesting storks. Funny at times, tedious at times. Characterizations are good. Illustrated by Maurice Sendak.
The Courage of Sarah Noble by Alice Dalgliesh (Atheneum, $12.79, third-grade level). ISBN: 0s684188309.	Honor Book A little girl goes with her father in colonial America to their new homestead in New England and bravely helps her dad, lives with Indians, and grows up. Nicely told story, especially for new readers. Mild history of colonial life. Close to being a picture book.
Banner in the Sky by James Ullman (Econo-Clad, $12.20, fifth-grade level). ISBN: 0808560883.	Honor Book A boy whose father died climbing in the Swiss Alps brings glory to his village by assisting the first man to climb Rudisberg, a fictional version of the Matterhorn ascent. This is a very exciting story that will find deaf ears today. It has no ties to curriculum and the language is a little stuffy for modern kids. Too bad.
